Engaging Community, Narrating Change

Featuring Walter Brueggemann, John McKnight, Peter Block and music by Barbara McAfee

The work of “building community” is a complex and life-long journey;  relationship resides at its core.  This work is challenged by our culture.  Though individuals are very connected technologically, many experience enormous isolation.

We have developed a dependence on systems and institutions to solve problems  and meet needs, rather than engaging ourselves collaboratively with others.  Currently, conversations about challenges in our neighborhood, workplace, church, city, state or country often start from what we do not have, what we lack, what we need.  Such conversations have limited power to create lasting change.

Come, experience a conversation that will offer and inspire new possibilities!

Community Builders Meetup

Join our Community Building team for a meetup Tuesday, Nov 27 from 4:30-6PM. We'll be discussing how the local media could better support our community building efforts.

Take a deeper dive with us into the role media plays (or could) in community building efforts. We'd like to discuss in more depth why The Gazette Company has assembled a community building team, and brainstorm the ideal partnership we all as community builders would like to have with our local/interest-related media outlets.

And to build off of a common theme from our October conversation, we’ll start a map of everyone's community building projects in or from our area and begin drawing the connections among them. This will be a great chance to learn more about what's going on in community building around the greater Iowa City/Cedar Rapids region and join forces with other dedicated individuals to working together toward a more collaborative culture.

Drinks will be served! We hope you can join us and look forward to a great discussion!
